Community Cohesion

Community Cohesion

Students speak enthusiastically and with pride about their involvement in the school. They lead projects and performances within school and the wider community, nationally and internationally. Students are keen to experience new things and particularly enjoy learning about different cultural and artistic influences and traditions, for example through the performing and visual arts. Knowledge of other cultures is strengthened by links with communities in Nepal and Zambia, and the enterprising and challenging voluntary work undertaken there by older students, including some with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Ofsted 2011

We are determined to act vigorously and successfully to make an exceptional contribution to community cohesion. Our school community is highly cohesive and our students play a positive role in their community at local, national and international level. Much of our community work is incorporated into "live briefs" to boost attainment in the curriculum, particularly in Media and Art and Design while also having a positive impact on our community.

We have highlighted some of our most significant contributions to community cohesion that have helped us create a harmonious and tolerant atmosphere for our students. Through these initiatives, allied to Citizenship and Religious Education which is compulsory to all students (and reinforced through Curriculum Day), we are absolutely determined to ensure that our students develop into well rounded and tolerant citizens with an appreciation and respect for diversity who can flourish within school and at local, national and international level both now and into the future.
