Faculty of Design and Technology

Faculty of Design and Technology

Design and Technology at the CTC Kingshurst Academy covers five disciplines: DT, Engineering, Hospitality, Product Design and Resistant Materials.

Faculty Mission Statement

‘The Best Way To Predict the Future is to Design It’
The Design, Technology and Engineering department offers students opportunities to use the latest in technology to become the designers, technologist and engineers of the future.

Through creative thinking students are encouraged to make positive changes to objects and products used in everyday life. The nature of the subject encourages students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. It enables them to identify needs and opportunities and to respond by developing ideas and eventually making products and systems. Design, Technology and Engineering allows students to combine practical skills with an understanding, of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industrial practises. This allows them to reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, its uses and its impacts.
