Faculty of Social Sciences

Social Sciences at the CTC Kingshurst Academy covers four disciplines: Children's Care, Learning and Development, Health and Social Care, Psychology and Sociology.

Faculty Mission Statement

The Faculty aims to develop students’ knowledge, skills and understanding of all aspects of social sciences.

Within Sociology students explore aspects of studying society, family, education, mass media, crime and deviance, power and social inequalities as well learning a whole new vocabulary. Psychology students explore all aspects of human behaviour. Health and Social Care students explore a wide range of units from the human body to equality, diversity and rights. Children’s Care, Learning and Development students explore a wide range of units from communication to the protection of children.

Students are encouraged to develop their evaluation skills and to become independent learners. Social Sciences provide students with the skills for success across all subjects and for life beyond. Social Sciences is a stepping stone towards careers in human resources, education, care services and much more.
