Why do we need vitamin E?

Vitamin E is needed for the proper functioning of the immune system, and healthy cells. It has been suggested that vitamin E may reduce some types of cancers and heart disease.

Sources of vitamin E

Foods high in vitamin E include vegetables almonds, peanuts, cod liver-oil, lobster, salmon fillet and peach halves.

What happens if I eat too much?

Too much vitamin E can cause nausea.

What happens if I don't eat enough?

Too much vitamin E may interfere with the working of vitamin K, which leads to the prolonged clotting time of blood. It can also result in a form of anaemia caused by the death of red blood cells, and nerve damage.

How much should I have?

You should have 7 - 10 mg (7 000 - 10 000 µg) per day.
