Group 6 - Starchy foods

This group contains breads, cereals, rice, pasta, chapattis and potatoes.
It is at the bottom of the pyramid. More foods from this group should
be eaten than any other group. Approximately one third of the total diet
should be from this group, which is about eleven servings. This group
contains the most starchy carbohydrates, which are important in the release
of energy in the body. It also contains minerals, B vitamins and fibre.
Highly processed carbohydrates such as sugary cereals and white bread
are not as good for you.
What is a serving?
Two pieces of bread, one bowl of cereal, one small bowl of pasta, one
jacket potato, two tablespoons of mashed potato.
