Structure of Course:

Media is a very rewarding and enriching course, which requires you to be critical of the world around you. We live in an incredibly media saturated society where we are being constantly bombarded with information and images from Television, the Internet, Social Media and any number of other sources. Studying Media allows you to analyse, interpret and evaluate these everyday products we take for granted and can further your understanding of them. You will develop your skills of media literacy through studying a range of Media Products and exploring how they were made and what meaning they offer audiences. You will also build practical skills in Media Production using a range of industry standard software to create a range of different media products.

A Level Media Studies Aims and Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how the Theoretical Framework of Media (Language, Representation, Audience, Industries) applies to Media products
  • Analyse and deconstruct the meaning of a range of Media texts, such as newspapers, magazines, TV, film and websites
  • Respond to Production Briefs by producing creative and professional products across different media platforms


Learners take all components (01, 02, 03 and 04) to be awarded the AQA A-LEVEL in Media Studies.

NEA Assessment:

Creating a Cross-media Production

60 marks

Students choose from six briefs to create their own Media Productions such as films, magazines, websites etc. 30% of total A level
